Resin bottle top table

We decided to liven up our old wooden patio table by using some beer bottle tops we had collected from across the world and setting it in clear resin. The final product exceeded our expectations. The table holds a total of 967 beer bottle tops from 29 different countries. It took about 3 years to collect. It is not all beer, some gaps were filled with non-alcoholic beverages to add a bit of extra colour.

The brilliant team at Octagon Limited shopfitters created a plywood base with a snazzy Corian lip to retain the resin. It even lifts off.

I had some help unpacking all the bottle tops.

We started by packing them all out in colours, roughly matching the colour scheme of our patio mosaic which we completed the year before.

I sorted all the tops by colour and kept them in separate containers.

The cat was his usual inquisitive self and kept lying on the table and jumbling up our design before they were all stuck down.

Hot glue gun was the quickest way to glue the bottle tops down. This is to ensure they do not float up when you pour the resin.
